Amtrak Ends Reading-Philadelphia Bus Route; TransportAzumah Launches Replacement Service

READING, PA — Amtrak has officially discontinued its Thruway bus service connecting Reading and Philadelphia as of March 18, 2025. To ensure continued transit options in the region, TransportAzumah has announced a new replacement bus service, which began March 23, 2025. The service will operate between Reading and Philadelphia, with an additional stop at Kutztown University during the Fall and Spring semesters.

The new service maintains critical connections to Amtrak, SEPTA, and New Jersey Transit at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station while plans for direct Amtrak rail service to Reading remain under development.

Schedule

TransportAzumah’s buses will initially operate twice daily on Fridays and Sundays.

  • Run 724: 12:00 PM Reading → 12:30 PM Kutztown → 1:45 PM Philadelphia
  • Run 728: 5:00 PM Reading → 5:30 PM Kutztown → 6:45 PM Philadelphia
Philadelphia PA → Kutztown PA → Reading PA
  • Run 725: 2:30 PM Philadelphia → 3:45 PM Kutztown → 4:15 PM Reading
  • Run 729: 9:00 PM Philadelphia → 10:15 PM Kutztown → 10:45 PM Reading
