PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Alliance for Decision Education has announced the launch of Forecasting the Future 2025, a free, online tournament aimed at helping U.S.-based students develop critical decision-making skills by forecasting real-world events. Open to middle and high school students aged 13-19, the competition will begin on March 31, 2025, and run for six weeks. Registration is open until March 30, 2025.
Through weekly prediction questions on topics such as music, sports, and movies, participants will enhance their ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and avoid common decision-making traps. These skills, which are integrated across the Decision Education K-12 Learning Domains, are invaluable for academic, personal, and professional success.
“Participating in the tournament has definitely influenced how I make decisions and solve problems in my daily life,” said 2024 participant Tasnim D. “I’ve learned to break down problems into smaller steps and think through the process carefully instead of rushing to a solution.”
Beyond building problem-solving capabilities, participation in Forecasting the Future 2025 can stand out on college applications, demonstrating students’ commitment to intellectual growth. Last year’s event saw 480 students across 22 states compete in the tournament, which incentivizes engagement through a gamified platform and meaningful prizes.
The rewards for this year’s top performers include $2,500 for first place, $1,000 each for second and third place, $500 each for fourth and fifth place, and additional prizes ranging from $50 to $100 Amazon gift cards for finalists placing in the top 40.
The competition also reflects findings from the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ 2024 Job Outlook Report, which identified problem-solving skills as the most sought-after attribute by 88% of U.S. companies. “Decision-making and forecasting are crucial for navigating today’s data-driven world,” the Alliance asserts.
Forecasting the Future 2025 provides an engaging opportunity for students to develop these essential skills while preparing for future challenges.
