MILFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the start of a significant bridge replacement project in Milford Township, Bucks County. Beginning Monday, January 27, construction will replace the bridge that carries Allentown Road over a branch of Unami Creek, a structure originally built in 1951.

During the project, Allentown Road will be closed to through traffic between Route 663 (John Fries Highway) and Kumry Road until late June. Motorists will be directed to follow a detour using Route 663, Krammes Road, and Kumry Road, with local access to properties in the area remaining open. Drivers should anticipate delays and are encouraged to plan extra travel time in the vicinity.

The Allentown Road bridge carries an average of 3,699 vehicles daily and is part of a larger $7.98 million initiative aimed at rehabilitating or replacing seven bridges in Bucks and Montgomery counties. Completed structures within this project include the Ashbourne Road bridge in Cheltenham Township and the Lurgan Road bridge in Upper Makefield Township. Upcoming work will address bridges in Hilltown, Plumstead, and Upper Providence Townships, as well as in Limerick Township.

The project’s general contractor, Loftus Construction, Inc., is managing the construction, which is fully funded by state resources. This infrastructure effort highlights PennDOT’s ongoing commitment to enhancing safety and reliability for the region’s motorists.
