BENSALEM, PA — Advanced Lubrication Specialties (“ALS”) has announced its plans to acquire the assets of Chemlube International LLC’s Savannah lubricants division. The deal, expected to close by the end of January 2025, marks a significant strategic move for ALS as it seeks to expand its blending capacity and customer base in the Southeast. Terms of the transaction remain confidential.
Established in 2001, Chemlube’s Savannah lubricants division is known for its high-quality lubricants and robust operational infrastructure. The facility boasts 5.8 million gallons of storage, eight railcar spots, tanks ranging from 3,000 to 1.2 million gallons, and access to a deep-water dock for efficient shipment and receipt of waterborne base oils. The division has played a pivotal role in distributing lubricants across the Southeast.
“Chemlube has been a strategic partner to ALS for close to 20 years. They are a first-class organization with quality products, customers, and a great reputation in the industry,” said Greg T. Julian, CEO of ALS. “These are the principles which define ALS, so when we had an opportunity to bring their customers and blending capacity into our portfolio, we jumped at the chance.”
The acquisition aligns with ALS’s strategy to enhance its operational capabilities and strengthen its position in the competitive lubricants market. With the addition of Chemlube’s Savannah blending operation, ALS is expected to significantly bolster its ability to serve bulk lubricant customers in the region.
For Chemlube, this transaction represents a strategic shift to prioritize its core business of global base oil distribution and trading. The Chemlube Group is a leading independent distributor of base oils worldwide, including serving as the exclusive distributor for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s premium Group III base oils in Europe.
“The sale of our Savannah blending operation represents a strategic decision by Chemlube to focus on its larger core base oil distribution and trading business,” said Robert Nobel, CEO of Chemlube. “We are pleased to be able to transfer our Savannah blending operation to ALS, an established and highly respected lubes blender whom we know well and with whom we have done substantial business over many years. We are confident that ALS will be able to expand the Savannah finished lubes business to the advantage of both our Savannah staff and our long-term finished lubes customers.”
This acquisition aims to strengthen Chemlube’s position as a leading base oil distributor in Europe.
