MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Hatboro Borough and Upper Moreland Township residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced this week the completion of a significant bridge replacement project on Warminster Road over Pennypack Creek. The newly constructed bridge, which reopened to traffic earlier today, is set to enhance safety and streamline daily commutes for nearly 12,000 local motorists.
The project, valued at $3.9 million, involved replacing the 136-year-old concrete-encased steel beam structure with a modern, prestressed concrete box beam bridge. Measuring 110 feet long and 38 feet wide, the new structure boasts wider lanes and shoulders, designed to improve traffic safety and flow.
But the improvements weren’t just limited to motorists. In an effort to promote pedestrian safety, PennDOT’s contractor, Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, PA, included additional enhancements such as a five-foot-wide sidewalk for pedestrians. This feature is complemented by a rapid flashing beacon signal on the south approach, aimed at enhancing pedestrian visibility and safety.
Other upgrades include resurfacing the approach roadways, installing new signing, pavement markings, and guiderail, all contributing to a safer and more efficient roadway for both drivers and pedestrians.
Financed entirely with state funds, the project represents a significant investment in the infrastructure of Hatboro Borough and Upper Moreland Township.
