91-Year-Old Woman Tragically Killed After Being Struck in New Castle—Police Seek Witnesses!

NEW CASTLE, DE — A tragic pedestrian accident in New Castle has resulted in the death of a 91-year-old woman, Evelyn Newman, after being struck by a vehicle late last week.

The collision occurred on Friday, December 27, 2024, around 2:13 p.m., near the intersection of Wilton Boulevard and Old Forge Road. According to the New Castle County Division of Police, Ms. Newman was crossing the roadway when she was struck by a northbound 2005 Buick Park Avenue, driven by 64-year-old Chester Ridgeway, also of New Castle.

Emergency responders transported Ms. Newman to a local hospital, where she remained in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, officials confirmed she succumbed to her injuries on December 29, 2024.

Mr. Ridgeway remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The Traffic Services Unit of the New Castle County Division of Police is leading the investigation and continues to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives are actively seeking additional information from witnesses or anyone with surveillance footage of the accident.
