$7M Bridge Replacement Project Begins on Route 73 in Montgomery County

Traffic Advisory

SKIPPACK TWP, PA — Construction activities on Route 73 (Skippack Pike) will commence under a $7 million project by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to replace an aging bridge over Skippack Creek. The project, located in Skippack Township, Montgomery County, aims to enhance safety and improve infrastructure.

Lane closures will be in place from Tuesday, April 15, through Monday, May 5, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on weekdays. Traffic restrictions will affect the section of Route 73 between Old Forty Foot Road/Evansburg Road and Kerr Road, with flagging to manage traffic flow. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan extra travel time. All construction activities are weather dependent.

The 89-year-old, two-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge currently in use will be replaced by a single-span, reinforced concrete PA Bulb-tee bridge. The new structure will measure 104 feet in length and 52 feet in width, featuring two 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders to better accommodate modern traffic needs.

PennDOT urges residents and commuters to exercise caution in the construction zone. Stay informed and plan your commute—visit the MyChesCo Traffic Center for real-time updates on Route 73 construction and more!
