HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that a Bedford County woman was sentenced this week to life in prison, without parole, for the 2018 murder of her husband.

In September, a jury found 76-year-old Nancy Focht guilty of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence for shooting David Focht, Sr., following an argument at the couple’s property.

“The defendant murdered her husband then tried to lie her way out of being caught,” Attorney General Henry said. “Although nothing can bring back David Focht Sr., thanks to the hard work and diligence of the investigators and prosecutors on this case, Nancy Focht is being held fully accountable for his death.”

The investigation found that on September 11, 2018, Focht shot her husband in a shed outside their home. Focht called 9-1-1 and told the operator that her husband fired the shot, which was later proven to be false. She later repeated this false narrative to the Pennsylvania State Police, and only confessed that it was she who fired the shot months later during an interview with investigators.

During the trial in Bedford County Court, prosecutors presented physical evidence and testimony that disproved Focht’s initial version of events.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Philip McCarthy and Deputy Attorney General Kevin Scheibel. The case was referred to the Office of Attorney General from the Bedford County District Attorney’s Office.
