SCRANTON, PA — Benjamin Woytas, a 34-year-old resident of Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on allegations of drug trafficking, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam.

The indictment reportedly alleges that Woytas distributed methamphetamine multiple times in Luzerne County in August 2023.

The case is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is leading the prosecution.

Under federal law, the maximum penalty for the alleged offense is 40 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. A sentence, if guilt is determined, will be imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

It’s important to note that indictments are merely allegations. All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
