Department of Justice

SCRANTON, PA — Antoine Montgomery, 34, and Jamal Jenkins, 35, both of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, were indicted by a federal grand jury on November 21, 2023. The charges include conspiracy, possession, and distribution of fentanyl, according to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam.

The indictment alleges that Montgomery and Jenkins have been involved in a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl since December 2022. Furthermore, it is alleged that the pair were in possession of fentanyl on November 17, 2023, with the intent to distribute the narcotic in Luzerne County.

Investigation of the case was carried out by the Wilkes-Barre City Police, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd K. Hinkley is prosecuting the case.

This case is part of a district-wide initiative led by the United States Attorney’s Office to combat the nationwide epidemic of heroin use and distribution. Known as the Heroin Initiative, this coordinated effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies targets heroin traffickers operating in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

If found guilty, the maximum penalty under federal law for these offenses includes lifetime imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The sentencing will be determined by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
