SCRANTON, PA — Ras Dalmar Johnson, a 27-year-old resident of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, faces serious allegations after being indicted by a federal grand jury on April 9, 2024. The charges, announced by United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, include drug trafficking and the illegal possession of a firearm.
The indictment claims that on February 1, 2024, Johnson was found in possession of significant quantities of illegal drugs, specifically over 400 grams of fentanyl and over 50 grams of methamphetamine, alongside cocaine and marijuana. Furthermore, it is alleged that Johnson, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, had a Glock 26 handgun, purportedly to further his drug trafficking activities.
This case has been brought to light through the collaborative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics, and the Wilkes-Barre Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is tasked with prosecuting the case.
Johnson potentially faces life imprisonment, along with a term of supervised release and a fine, should he be found guilty. These penalties underscore the severity of the charges against him, particularly given the ongoing national crisis related to opioid abuse and the dangers associated with illegal firearms.
It is essential to remember that an indictment is merely an accusation. Under the U.S. legal system, Johnson, like all individuals charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The allegations against him will be thoroughly examined during the trial, where evidence will be presented by both the prosecution and defense.
