Transform Your Community with AARP Pennsylvania’s 2025 Grant Opportunity

AARP Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, PAAARP Pennsylvania has opened applications for its 2025 Community Challenge grant program, aimed at funding quick-action projects that enhance quality of life and create more livable communities across the state. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Part of AARP’s Livable Communities initiative, the grant program supports projects that improve accessibility, equity, and age-friendliness in local areas. Since its inception in 2017, AARP has awarded $20.1 million to over 1,700 projects nationwide, including 41 in Pennsylvania. Previous grants funded impactful community improvements such as installing age-friendly fitness equipment and seating in an Erie park and transforming a Philadelphia space into a pedestrian plaza to boost safety and community connection.

“These grants empower communities to take quick, meaningful actions that enhance the lives of Pennsylvanians,” said Bill Johnston-Walsh, AARP Pennsylvania State Director. “We’re thrilled to support projects that make our state’s communities more livable for residents of all ages, especially those 50 and older.”

The 2025 grant program features three funding categories:

  • Capacity-Building Microgrants for initiatives such as walkability improvements, home safety, and disaster preparedness.
  • Demonstration Grants for scalable projects like pedestrian safety upgrades and broadband access expansion.
  • Flagship Grants for larger efforts focused on housing, transportation, digital inclusion, public spaces, and community resilience.

Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6) status, along with government entities, are eligible to apply. Grant amounts range from several hundred dollars to tens of thousands, depending on project scope. All projects must be completed by December 15, 2025.

For communities seeking to implement impactful changes, this grant program provides critical support to drive measurable improvements that benefit residents of all ages. Learn more, view past projects, and apply at www.AARP.org/CommunityChallenge.
