WASHINGTON, D.C.Senator Dave McCormick (R-Pennsylvania) spent Thursday, March 20, in Philadelphia meeting with industry leaders and local officials to discuss significant energy initiatives that could bolster Pennsylvania’s economy and increase the nation’s energy independence.

During his visit, Senator McCormick met with Seth Shapiro, President and CEO of Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), to review plans to expand liquid natural gas (LNG) exports through the Port of Philadelphia. McCormick emphasized the economic and security advantages of strengthening the region’s LNG capabilities, stating, “Pennsylvania has a unique opportunity to lead the nation in energy exporting through the Port of Philadelphia. Expanding the Port’s LNG export capacity would bolster national security, increase America’s energy independence, create good-paying jobs for Philadelphians, and grow our Commonwealth’s economy to the benefit of all residents.”

The Senator also held discussions with leaders of Keystone LNG, including Franc James, CEO of Penn American Energy Holdings (PAEH), and representatives from the Pennsylvania Building Trades, as well as state lawmakers. The meeting focused on the $7 billion Keystone LNG project aimed at building a new LNG export terminal along the Delaware River in Chester. Proponents of the initiative highlighted its potential to generate significant economic impact, create 3,000 jobs, and deliver $30-$40 million in annual tax revenue for the community.

McCormick criticized regulatory delays, including a prior pause on LNG export projects, as obstacles to advancing energy infrastructure development. “This massive, proposed project in southeastern Pennsylvania has the potential to generate billions in economic impact over the next 20 years… The Biden Administration foolishly placed an indefinite pause on this and other critical projects, halting our progress towards energy independence, lower emissions, and significant economic growth,” he said.

Senator McCormick concluded his visit to Philadelphia with a meeting at Villanova University, where he engaged with University President Father Peter Donohue and Assistant Vice President Chris Kovolski. The discussion focused on Villanova’s strategic vision and key federal issues affecting the institution.

“Villanova University is one of the many premier institutions in the Philadelphia area with a big economic footprint along the Main Line,” Senator McCormick said. “I look forward to working with Father Peter and his team to serve as a partner in leadership and innovation as the University continues to grow in the region.”

By engaging with key stakeholders, McCormick reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Pennsylvania’s position as a leader in the energy sector and supporting infrastructure projects that prioritize economic growth and national security. The proposed LNG projects remain central to Pennsylvania’s broader energy strategy, potentially positioning the state as a global LNG exporter.
