CAMP HILL, PA — The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) has announced its involvement in the Run for the Trees – Happy Little 5K, a virtual event inspired by the legendary artist Bob Ross. Scheduled to take place outdoors from April 19-27, 2025, this event aligns with Earth Day and Arbor Day and aims to fund tree planting and forest protection projects in Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests.
Registration for the event is now open. Participants can complete the 5K at their own pace, receiving a commemorative package that includes a “Happy Little” T-shirt, bib, sticker, and finisher’s medal. Gift certificates are also available, making this an ideal opportunity for holiday gift-giving.
The Happy Little 5K originated in Michigan a decade ago as part of the “Happy Little Trees” program, which combats invasive pests and diseases impacting local forests. Its popularity has since grown, expanding into several states, now including Pennsylvania. Proceeds from the event are designated to advance environmental stewardship initiatives, directly supporting tree planting and forest sustainability across the state.
“Planting trees is a gift for the future,” PPFF President Marci Mowery highlighted. “Trees play a critical role, offering everything from stress relief to clean air and water. We are thrilled to partner with this event.”
Joan Kowalski, President of Bob Ross Company, also expressed enthusiasm, noting, “The official Bob Ross 5K perfectly encapsulates everything Bob held dear—nature, environmental care, and, of course, happy trees.”
With a registration fee of $36, the event welcomes nature lovers, fitness enthusiasts, and fans of Bob Ross to contribute to a meaningful cause. Funds raised will directly benefit restoration and conservation efforts in Pennsylvania’s treasured outdoor spaces.
