HARRISBURG, PAGovernor Josh Shapiro announced a significant economic development milestone for Pennsylvania, as the state successfully secured an investment of over $8.6 million to bring Mainspring Energy, a leading clean-tech company, to Allegheny County. This investment forms part of the Commonwealth’s strategic commitment to bolster key industries and create job opportunities, positioning Pennsylvania as a frontrunner in energy innovation and manufacturing.

Mainspring Energy, renowned for its advanced linear generator technology, will construct a 292,000-square-foot facility in Findlay Township’s Northfield Industrial Park. This expansion is set to generate at least 597 new jobs, representing a substantial economic boost for the region. Governor Shapiro emphasized the strategic importance of this venture, stating, “Pennsylvania is making strategic investments to boost key industries like energy and manufacturing, and Mainspring clearly recognizes that we’re the best state in the nation for companies that want to grow and thrive.”

The state’s Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has extended a $5,679,000 Pennsylvania First grant and a $3,000,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program award to Mainspring, reinforcing Pennsylvania’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth. DCED Secretary Rick Siger remarked, “Mainspring’s expansion into Pennsylvania is a great example of what the Commonwealth has to offer to companies in these industries.”

Mainspring’s innovative linear generators provide flexible, low-cost, and clean electricity, capable of using diverse fuels including green hydrogen and biogas. CEO Shannon Miller expressed enthusiasm for the move, saying, “We’re thrilled to be coming to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for our first major manufacturing investment in the United States.”

The project also received an $87 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, underscoring federal confidence in Mainspring’s potential to advance clean energy solutions. Senator Bob Casey highlighted the transformative impact, stating, “This is a game-changing investment for Allegheny County. With this funding, Mainspring Energy will create good-paying and high-skilled manufacturing jobs and continue Southwestern Pennsylvania’s legacy as an energy leader.”

Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, welcomed Mainspring as a valuable addition to the region’s economic landscape.
