Pittsburgh Resident Indicted on Federal Firearms and Narcotics Charges

Department of Justice

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to federal firearms and narcotics laws, according to an announcement made by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Johvian Everett, 24, formerly of Mt. Oliver, Pennsylvania, is the sole defendant named in the two-count indictment.

The indictment alleges that on November 27, 2022, Everett knowingly possessed a firearm and ammunition, despite being a convicted felon. Federal law prohibits persons with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition. In addition to this alleged firearms violation, Everett is also accused of possessing cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance, with the intent to distribute on the same date.

If found guilty, Everett could face a maximum total sentence of up to 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $2 million, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the offenses and Everett’s prior criminal history, as per the federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Assistant United States Attorney Katherine C. Jordan is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police conducted the investigation leading to Everett’s indictment.

As always, it should be noted that an indictment, criminal complaint, or arrest does not constitute a declaration of guilt. Every suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
