PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh resident has been slapped with a 33-month federal prison sentence for illegal firearm possession. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan made the announcement on Tuesday, underscoring the strict enforcement of federal laws against such offenses.

Isaiah Wise, 23, received the sentence from United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy. In addition to the prison term, Wise will serve three years of supervised release, ensuring continued oversight of his actions upon completion of his sentence.

Wise had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm on December 4, 2021. This came after prior felony convictions for fentanyl trafficking, unlawful firearm possession, and endangering the welfare of children. The court was informed that Wise was on probation for these felonies when he engaged in an unlawful scheme to purchase and possess a Glock 27 .40 caliber pistol, a high-capacity drum magazine, and ammunition. As a convicted felon, Wise is prohibited by federal law from owning a firearm or ammunition.

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller led the prosecution of this case, ensuring justice was served on behalf of the United States.

United States Attorney Olshan praised the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office for their meticulous investigation, which led to Wise’s successful prosecution. This case highlights the severe consequences awaiting those who flout federal firearm laws.
