HARRISBURG, PA — Amid the closure of several federal campgrounds due to staffing shortages, Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests remain fully operational, with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) unveiling a new tourism campaign to draw visitors.

The initiative, titled “Still Open. Still Awesome.,” aims to showcase Pennsylvania’s extensive natural offerings, promote outdoor recreation, and capitalize on a nearly 30% increase in campsite reservations this March compared to the same period last year.

“From breathtaking hiking trails to peaceful lakeside campsites, Pennsylvania’s parks are the perfect escape for those looking to unplug, unwind, and reconnect with nature,” said DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn. “With warmer temperatures on the way, now is the time to plan your next outdoor getaway.”

Pennsylvania’s 124 state parks and 2.2 million acres of state forests are free to access year-round, providing opportunities for hiking, camping, and more. With over 7,100 campsites—including cabins, yurts, and pet-friendly options—there is something for every outdoor enthusiast. Promised Land State Park is among several locations catering to horseback riders with dedicated accommodations.

To further encourage outdoor exploration, DCNR is relaunching its gift certificate program, allowing purchases to be used for campsite bookings, cabins, and retail buys within the parks. Unused balances after two years will convert into donations, supporting the stewardship of public lands.

With this campaign, Pennsylvania highlights its commitment to accessible, affordable outdoor experiences, ensuring residents and visitors alike can enjoy the state’s unparalleled natural beauty.
