PITTSBURGH, PA — A 43-year-old Sharon, Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to 15 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for her involvement in drug trafficking. The sentencing was announced on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

The woman, Sylvia Ferguson, was handed down the sentence by United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon for her role in a drug trafficking operation that involved the distribution of morphine in Sharon, Mercer County between July 2019 and November 2021.

Ferguson pleaded guilty earlier this year to the charge of conspiring to distribute the drug. At the time she was involved in the drug operation, Ferguson was on probation due to a prior conviction in state court.

The case was prosecuted by Craig W. Haller on behalf of the United States. Following the sentencing, Haller commended the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation which conducted the investigation leading to Ferguson’s conviction and sentence.

The sentence underscores the government’s continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that those involved in such activities face the full weight of the law.
