MOOSIC, PA — To significantly boost Pennsylvania tourism, Governor Josh Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger recently launched the state’s fresh tourism brand and summer travel marketing campaign, Pennsylvania: The Great American Getaway.
Framed to prompt a surge in travelers to Pennsylvania, the campaign emphasizes the state’s strategic location, within a four-hour drive for 72 million people. The Commonwealth offers a range of attractions, from globally acclaimed restaurants and bars to charming small towns, exhilarating outdoor recreation, and notable historic sites that narrate America’s rich history.
Governor Josh Shapiro highlighted what Pennsylvania offers. “We have it all here – award-winning restaurants, incredible state parks, the most important historical sites that tell the story of our history. Once you’re here, there’s something for family members of all ages. My Administration is making tourism a top priority for the first time in over a decade – central to our economic development strategy.”
In the wake of this announcement, Governor Shapiro and the First Family initiated a week-long RV tour across the state, drawing attention to the world-class urban spaces, outdoor adventure opportunities, diverse culinary experiences, unique events, and iconic historical attractions.
Significantly, the tourism industry is integral to the Governor’s economic development strategy. Recent figures document that Pennsylvania’s tourism industry brought in $76.7 billion in economic impact, supported nearly 487,000 jobs, contributed $4.7 billion in state and local taxes, and welcomed almost 193 million visitors in 2022.
DCED Secretary Rick Siger emphasized the importance of tourism to the state’s economy. “Tourism is a powerful engine that drives our economy and benefits our communities, small businesses, and Pennsylvanians across the state every day.”
To promote the new brand, VISIT PA rolled out a summer marketing campaign, “Your Great American Getaway Starts Here.” The campaign blends high-impact outdoor, multiscreen video, and targeted digital media to create awareness and direct traffic to visitPA.com, where potential visitors can find weekend road trip itineraries.
Governor Shapiro’s Economic Development Strategy exhibits a remarkable commitment to tourism. The strategy, first of its kind in nearly two decades, is set to showcase how iconic attractions, hidden gems, and thriving small businesses contribute to the state’s economy and improve residents’ quality of life.
