HARRISBURG, PA — As Pennsylvania opens its filing season for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program, the Department of Revenue is ushering in a new era of inclusivity with the launch of a Spanish-language online application system. This innovative service, available through the department’s online filing system, myPATH, is designed to streamline the rebate application process for the state’s Spanish-speaking seniors and individuals with disabilities.
This initiative is a direct result of Governor Josh Shapiro’s successful efforts to expand the PTRR program, which has made nearly 175,000 additional Pennsylvanians eligible for rebates. The move underscores the administration’s commitment to making government services more accessible and convenient for all residents, regardless of their language proficiency.
“We are thrilled to offer this new online option for Spanish-speaking applicants to apply for a property tax or rent rebate,” said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. “Our staff at the Department of Revenue has been working hard behind the scenes to launch this new tool for our Spanish customers. We are following Governor Shapiro’s lead and working to make all of our online customer service options as accessible as possible for all Pennsylvanians.”
The Spanish version of myPATH guides applicants through the process using eligibility requirements and filing instructions in Spanish, with no need to create a username or password to file a PTRR application. This user-friendly system offers several other features to assist applicants, including instant confirmation that an application has been successfully filed, access to automatic calculators to help determine rebate amounts, and built-in checks to reduce errors.
The introduction of the Spanish-language application is a significant stride towards ensuring that all Pennsylvanians can readily access and benefit from the PTRR program. The move is particularly crucial given the growing diversity of Pennsylvania’s population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 7% of Pennsylvanians are Spanish speakers, and this figure is projected to rise. By providing resources in Spanish, the state is effectively reaching out to a substantial portion of its populace, making it easier for them to claim their rightful rebates.
At its core, the PTRR program is designed to alleviate the financial burden of property taxes or rent on seniors and individuals with disabilities. By expanding the program’s reach and making it more accessible, particularly to non-English speakers, Pennsylvania is reinforcing its commitment to supporting its most vulnerable residents.
