HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) have released their eye-opening crash and enforcement summary for the 2025 New Year’s travel period, and while there’s some good news compared to last year, the numbers still paint a sobering picture.

Between December 31 and January 2, PSP troopers responded to 425 crashes across the state, leaving one person dead and 68 injured. While fatalities dropped significantly from five in 2024 to only one this year, impaired driving continues to wreak havoc on the roads, playing a role in 31 crashes over the three-day window.

Enforcement data highlights PSP’s aggressive efforts to clamp down on reckless driving. Troopers arrested 254 individuals for driving under the influence, issued 2,727 speeding citations, and handed out 383 seatbelt violations. Additionally, 50 citations were given for failing to secure children in safety seats. Compared to last year, DUI arrests saw a slight decrease from 326, and speeding citations dropped by over 1,000, but the fight against unsafe driving is far from over.

Crash Comparisons at a Glance
  • 2025: 425 crashes, 1 fatality, 68 injuries, 31 DUI crashes.
  • 2024: 336 crashes, 5 fatalities, 68 injuries, 47 DUI crashes.
