PENNSYLVANIA — The State Museum of Pennsylvania is set to make your holiday season even more festive with an exciting lineup of special events and programs. From captivating planetarium shows to museum store sales and a family-friendly New Year’s celebration, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Starting off the holiday happenings is a special seasonal show in the Planetarium titled ‘Season of Light’. This all-ages spectacle explores the astronomical aspects of holiday traditions, highlighting how the darkest time of the year is illuminated by the warmest and brightest celebrations. From the burning Yule log and Christmas tree lights to Hanukkah menorahs and the Star of Bethlehem, ‘Season of Light’ traces the history of these customs. The show will run from December 13 to December 23 at various times. Tickets are an additional $3 per person on top of general admission and must be purchased at the main entrance at least 10 minutes before showtime.
Next up, the Museum Store is hosting Winter Sale Days on December 22 and 23. Shoppers can enjoy a 20% discount on a wide assortment of unique holiday gifts. Please note, this offer excludes sale and clearance items and cannot be combined with other discounts. The State Museum Store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM, with free entrance.
To ring in the New Year, the museum invites visitors to its family-friendly ‘Noon Year’s Eve Celebration’. Scheduled for Saturday, December 30, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the event promises fun-filled activities such as crafts, trivia games, dancing, and the famous firefly and streamer drop at noon. This celebration is included with general admission, with certain discounts applying.
Additionally, the Planetarium will feature a special show titled ‘Not Your Average Star’, designed for young viewers. This enlightening presentation explores the sun, the star at the center of our solar system, and its vital role in our lives. The show is scheduled to run at 10:15 AM, 10:45 AM, and 11:15 AM.
