PENNSYLVANIA — On Wednesday, Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis joined the Pennsylvania Jewish Legislative Caucus in a show of solidarity with Israel following the unprovoked terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The bipartisan group of legislators gathered to express their support for the people of Israel. Governor Shapiro issued a proclamation in support of the Pennsylvania Jewish community and allies who stand together against hate, terror, and violence.

The Pennsylvania Senate adopted two resolutions on Tuesday, Senate Resolution 191 and Senate Resolution 185, condemning the attack by Hamas. The Pennsylvania House also adopted Resolution 245, urging the US Congress to provide Israel with the necessary support to ensure its safety and security.

Senate Resolution 191 condemns the terrorist attack launched by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, during the sacred Jewish Sabbath, also known as Shabbat. It expresses deep condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives as a result of this senseless act of violence. Senate Resolution 185 echoes these sentiments, condemning the recent Hamas attacks and expressing condolences and support for the State of Israel and its people in opposition to barbaric terrorism.

House Resolution 245 urges the US Congress to provide the State of Israel with the support necessary to ensure its safety and security and condemns the terrorist attack in Israel by Hamas.

Governor Shapiro said, “Even in these polarized times, Pennsylvania’s elected leaders are united in supporting Israel and standing against terror.” He stressed that the state lawmakers have heard the voice of their constituents and have shown their support through these resolutions condemning terror and standing with Israel.

Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis expressed his support for the Commonwealth’s Jewish community, saying, “It was heartening to see the Pennsylvania House and Senate come together, across political lines, to offer their unanimous support for resolutions condemning the attacks by Hamas.”

The Governor and Lieutenant Governor stood with Pennsylvania’s first-ever Jewish Legislative Caucus, including founders and co-chairs Rep. Dan Frankel and Sen. Judy Schwank, during the event.

Sen. Judy Schwank applauded her colleagues for supporting the resolutions to condemn the terrorist attack on Israel, stating that the brutal acts of violence committed by Hamas have no place in the world today. Both resolutions urge the US Government to do everything possible to broker a meaningful, lasting peace and end the bloodshed.

Sen. Steven Santarsiero, prime sponsor of SR 191, thanked his colleagues in the Senate for joining him in a strong renunciation of the terrorist organization Hamas and in showing support for the Israeli people.

Rep. Dan Frankel expressed his pride that the Commonwealth stands with Israel as it fights a war that it did not seek or want. Rep. Aaron Kaufer, co-sponsor of HR 245, emphasized that the Jewish people will not be exterminated and will defeat this threat as they have in the past.
