PENNSYLVANIA — Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding has made a public call to all Pennsylvania singers to enter the “Oh, Say, Can You Sing?” contest. This star-spangled sing-off offers the winner a chance to perform live at the 2024 PA Farm Show — the Pennsylvania State Fairâ„¢.
The Farm Show, scheduled from January 6 to 13, will begin each morning with an individual or group singing the national anthem live. Top vote-getters may also be selected to sing at special events, such as the Opening Ceremony on January 6.
Secretary Redding emphasized that the 2024 theme, “Connecting Our Communities,” invites Pennsylvanians to celebrate the things that unite them. He said, “There’s no better way to start each day than by connecting Farm Show visitors with their pride in what makes our country and our commonwealth great.”
The contest is open to all Pennsylvania residents, regardless of age. Both individuals and groups are encouraged to enter. Contestants can participate by emailing a YouTube link to a video of themselves singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” without instrumental accompaniment, to agcontests@pa.gov. Alternatively, they can upload their video or YouTube link to the comments of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Facebook page posts about the contest.
Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on November 12, 2023. Finalists will be posted for fan votes by Facebook reactions (likes, loves, wows, etc.) from November 14 through November 21, at 11:59 p.m. on the Farm Show Facebook page. The top ten finalists will be announced on Facebook, and then notified by email of the day they are scheduled to sing.
Winners will be provided a free parking pass for the day and must be present at the Farm Show Complex by 7:45 a.m. on the day they are selected to sing. A winner will sing live at 8:00 a.m. each day of the 2024 Pennsylvania Farm Show, from January 6-13.
The “Oh, Say, Can You Sing?” contest offers a unique opportunity for Pennsylvania singers to showcase their talent and patriotism in front of a large audience. It also serves as an excellent platform to connect communities across the state and celebrate their shared pride in the country and the commonwealth.
As the deadline for entries approaches, singers are encouraged to prepare and submit their renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The anticipation builds as Pennsylvania awaits the voices that will set the tone for each day of the 2024 PA Farm Show.
