HARRISBURG, PA — In a move that underscores the state’s commitment to its veteran community, Pennsylvania’s Deparor & Industry (L&I) has announced an investment of $600,000 in funding to three workforce development projects. These initiatives aim to connect veterans and their spouses with job opportunities, particularly in counties experiencing high unemployment rates among veterans.
The Veterans Employment Program (VEP), spearheaded by L&I Secretary Nancy A. Walker, is designed to ease the transition from military to civilian life for veterans, members of all Reserves units, Pennsylvania National Guard members, and their spouses.
“This funding is not just an investment in Pennsylvania’s veteran community and their families, it also unlocks an untapped labor pool for employers,” Secretary Walker said. “We anticipate a ripple effect that will fortify Pennsylvania communities and bolster the state’s economy.”
Pennsylvania’s adjutant general and head of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, expressed gratitude for the grants, emphasizing the unique job skills that veterans bring to the civilian sector. He added, “It is important that Pennsylvania not only welcomes them home but shows our gratitude by providing them important resources to begin their new career.”
The three projects awarded grants are as follows:
- Chester County Intermediate Unit received $199,182 for its “Heroes Rising: Empowering Veterans Through Education and Employment” initiative. This comprehensive program aims to empower military veterans by equipping them with education and employment opportunities. It focuses on fostering a seamless transition from military service to meaningful careers.
- Statewide project NuPaths, LLC. was awarded $199,998 to collaborate with its partners to expand accessibility to entry-level technology career training and support for Pennsylvania veterans. Participants will have the chance to enroll in training programs for roles such as an associate website developer, digital marketing assistant, IT security analyst, network technician, project analyst, software testing analyst, or technical support specialist.
- Veterans Leadership Program received $200,000 to decrease veteran unemployment rates in over 25 counties by providing opportunities for certificates and training in marketable job skills. The program also assists in connecting veterans to employers and providing financial assistance for employment-related expenses.
The funding was awarded using Reemployment funds to support veterans’ reintegration into civilian life and enhance their employment prospects. This investment aims to ensure veterans have the resources and support they need to thrive in civilian life.
