SCRANTON, PA — Yerigardy Tejeda-Zoquier, a 23-year-old resident of West Hazleton in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison on December 21, 2023, for possessing with the intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam reported that Tejeda-Zoquier had previously pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted to possessing between 500 grams and 1.5 kilograms of highly pure crystal methamphetamine. He intended to distribute the drugs throughout Luzerne and Carbon Counties during 2021.

Investigators were able to purchase crystal methamphetamine from Tejeda-Zoquier on multiple occasions between January and March 2021. These transactions took place in both Luzerne and Carbon Counties. Subsequent to these purchases, additional crystal methamphetamine was seized from two vehicles used by Tejeda-Zoquier.

The charges against Tejeda-Zoquier were the result of an investigation carried out by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara. This case is part of a coordinated effort by local, state, and federal law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and its corrosive effects on our communities.
