SCRANTON, PA — A federal grand jury indicted Thomas Green, a 33-year-old resident of Danville, Pennsylvania, on charges of threatening federal officials and interstate communication with threats, announced the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
The indictment comes after allegations that Green made multiple phone calls to various FBI field offices nationwide, expressing dissatisfaction with the FBI’s response to his reports of alleged criminal activities. According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, these calls, spanning several years, escalated in severity around August 18, 2022, when Green allegedly began threatening to assault and murder FBI agents unless they initiated investigations into his claims.
Furthermore, the indictment accuses Green of making a particularly ominous call to the FBI field office in Miami, Florida. During this call, he reportedly referenced the tragic deaths of FBI Special Agents Laura Schwartzenberger and Daniel Alfin, who were killed in the line of duty in 2021, insinuating that such an incident “can happen again” if the FBI did not comply with his demands.
This case is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Moreno leading the prosecution. The charges against Green carry a maximum penalty of ten years in prison, along with potential fines and a term of supervised release following imprisonment. Sentences, following a conviction, are determined by a judge based on federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation, and Thomas Green, like all individuals charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
