Pennsylvania Man Faces Federal Firearms Charge

US Department of Justice

PITTSBURGH, PA — Ernest Lee Terry, a 45-year-old resident of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, has been indicted on charges of violating federal firearms laws, as announced by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan on Thursday.

The indictment, which follows Terry’s arrest on March 14, 2024, charges him with possession of a .45 caliber Ruger semiautomatic pistol despite having a criminal record that includes seven prior felony convictions. These convictions span drug trafficking and firearms charges, making it illegal under federal law for Terry to own or possess firearms or ammunition.

Due to his extensive criminal history, Terry is also facing enhanced penalties under the Armed Career Criminal Act, which could result in a minimum sentence of 15 years to a maximum of life imprisonment, in addition to a potential fine of up to $250,000. The final sentence will be determined by considering the severity of the offense and Terry’s previous convictions, guided by the federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The case against Terry is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Douglas C. Maloney and Vincent Joseph Sonson. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in collaboration with the Allegheny County Police Department, led the investigation that resulted in Terry’s indictment.

It is essential to remember that an indictment is merely a formal charge and not evidence of guilt. As with all defendants in the American legal system, Terry is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
