PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) recently announced an important change to its popular R3 Education Grant Program (R3 Grant). In a move designed to streamline processing time and enhance customer service, the application period for the 2024 grant will open earlier than usual.
An Earlier Start for a Worthy Cause
Starting January 16, 2024, organizations can submit their applications for the R3 Grant, with the deadline set for March 1, 2024. This marks a departure from previous years when applications were accepted from mid-March.
The R3 Grant was established to bolster the efforts of partner organizations in recruiting, retaining, and reactivating anglers and boaters in Pennsylvania. By providing hands-on education, the R3 Grant aims to increase knowledge about fishing and boating, build skill confidence, encourage social support, and empower participants to enjoy their local waterways.
A Look Back at the Impact
In the past year, the PFBC awarded $187,625 in R3 Grant funding to support 15 educational projects across 11 counties and two statewide projects. These projects successfully demonstrated innovative ways to drive R3 initiatives and connect Pennsylvanians with the state’s rich waterways.
The Details of the R3 Grant
Under the R3 Grant, qualifying organizations can be reimbursed up to $25,000 for eligible expenses for projects conducted from approximately July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. However, there is a requirement for a minimum 25% match of the total project costs. Currently, applications for multi-year grants are not being accepted.
Looking Ahead
As we look forward to the 2024 application period for the R3 Grant, it’s clear that this program plays a vital role in promoting Pennsylvania’s rich fishing and boating culture. By fostering education and participation, the R3 Grant helps ensure that the joys of angling and boating continue to be a cherished part of life in Pennsylvania.
More information about the R3 Grant can be found on the PFBC website. Remember, the 2024 application period opens on January 16, 2024. Don’t miss this opportunity to help Pennsylvanians dive deeper into the world of fishing and boating!
