HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue (DOR) is ramping up its efforts to assist residents with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program, hosting in-person filing assistance events throughout the Commonwealth. The initiative will also provide support for filing personal income tax returns (PA-40). Following the program’s historic expansion under Governor Josh Shapiro, the PTRR initiative delivered over 522,000 rebates, totaling $319 million last year. Notably, 106,000 of those rebates went to first-time filers.

“Last year, we received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the on-site visits,” said Revenue Secretary Pat Browne. “We’re looking to keep the momentum going this year and reach as many eligible Pennsylvanians as possible. Whether it’s for rebate assistance or help with your state tax return, our staff is ready to provide support.”

Eligible applicants are required to file new applications annually since rebates are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid during the prior year. To assist residents, DOR representatives will visit senior and community centers to provide direct support.

What Residents Should Bring

Applicants should bring all necessary documents for filing, including income statements, property tax or rent information, photo identification, and Social Security cards for themselves and dependents. Filing for the PTRR program (PA-1000) or personal income tax returns is free.

Looking Forward

This outreach initiative aims to assist low-income and senior residents in accessing financial resources that can help alleviate the burden of property taxes. By providing convenient locations and times for residents to receive assistance with filing, the Commonwelath hopes to streamline the process and make it more accessible for those who may need it most.
