This prestigious designation, awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes high school seniors for their exemplary academic achievements, artistic excellence, leadership, community service, and commitment to high ideals.

These students were selected from a pool of 3.7 million expected high school graduates nationwide, with only 161 seniors receiving this honor. The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars rigorously evaluates candidates on various criteria, including academic and artistic achievements, essays, evaluations, transcripts, and their demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.

Acting Secretary of Education Dr. Khalid N. Mumin expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments, stating, “I am delighted to recognize Pennsylvania’s exceptional 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars for being awarded one of the nation’s highest academic honors.” He praised their hard work, engagement in community service, and outstanding leadership skills as qualities that made them exemplary representatives of the Commonwealth.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, since its inception in 1964 and through subsequent expansions to include artistic, literary, performing arts talents, and career and technical education fields, has honored over 8,000 of the nation’s top-performing students. Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024, the program continues to inspire hope and celebrate the promising future of young scholars across the country.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona lauded the selected scholars for representing “the best of our nation’s schools” and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence, uplifting others, and seizing leadership opportunities. “On behalf of President Biden, I am delighted to celebrate their accomplishments,” he added.
