HARRISBURG, PA — In a concerted effort to protect the integrity of upcoming elections, Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry has joined forces with her counterparts across the nation. They are challenging Life Corporation (Life Corp), a company accused of using artificial intelligence (AI) to impersonate President Biden in robocalls.

These calls, allegedly originating from Life Corp, have been spreading inaccurate information about the forthcoming election and discouraging potential voters from casting their ballots. The firm stands accused of exploiting AI technology to make these misleading calls sound convincingly like the president.

Attorney General Henry is part of the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, a group of 51 Attorneys General working together to combat this type of misuse of technology. The task force has issued a stern warning to the owners and executives of Life Corp, demanding an immediate halt to all unlawful call activity.

Investigations by the task force suggest that Life Corp manipulated the caller ID information to make the calls appear as if they were coming from legitimate political party official phone numbers in New Hampshire.

Just last month, Attorney General Henry wrote to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on behalf of 26 states. She urged the FCC to apply existing laws to the use of AI in robocalls.

“Robocalls are more than just an annoyance,” said Attorney General Henry. “They can spread fear and misinformation, potentially influencing voters. Our democracy depends on free and fair elections, and we cannot tolerate any threats to this fundamental right. AI-enhanced robocalls can be particularly dangerous, as people may trust what they hear.”

If Life Corp fails to comply with the warning letter, it could find itself in violation of several laws, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Truth in Caller ID Act, as well as various state consumer protection laws.

The Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, which consists of 51 bipartisan Attorneys General, is dedicated to investigating and taking legal action against those responsible for routing significant volumes of illegal robocall traffic into and across the United States.
