Pennsylvania Attorney General Settles with Florida Marketing Firm Over Deceptive Mailers

Office of the Attorney General

PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Attorney General, Michelle Henry, announced on Friday a settlement with RMC Direct Mail Services, LLC, a Florida-based marketing company. The company had allegedly been sending deceptive warranty mailers to Pennsylvanians.

The Commonwealth’s investigation found that the mailers contained numerous false claims designed to pressure and mislead recipients into responding. These included language like “Final Notice” and “Signature Required,” while some mailers were made to look like checks or official documents from the Internal Revenue Service. All these mailers were classified as “junk mail” advertisements by the Office of Attorney General.

“This marketing company has sent its last piece of junk mail to Pennsylvanians,” Attorney General Henry declared. “Junk mail can often be an inconvenience and annoyance, but this company took it a step further, startling recipients with urgent messaging and false representations.”

As per the terms of the settlement, RMC Direct Mail Services is now prohibited from participating in the creation or distribution of any form of advertisement to residents of Pennsylvania. The company will also cover the Commonwealth’s investigative costs and penalties.

The probe revealed that RMC Direct Mail Services was involved in creating and mailing warranty advertisements on behalf of one or more businesses. These mailers allegedly misled consumers by creating a false sense of urgency, stating that signatures were required when they were not, implying false affiliations with the recipient’s mortgage lender or vehicle manufacturer, among other misleading tactics.
