Pennsylvania Announces Selected Applicants for Community HealthChoices Program

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS)

HARRISBURG, PA — The Department of Human Services (DHS) has announced the selection of applicants who will administer Pennsylvania’s Community HealthChoices (CHC) program. This critical Medicaid managed care initiative serves adults who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, as well as those needing long-term services similar to nursing facility care.

The CHC program, a pivotal investment in the quality of life for older adults and individuals with disabilities in Pennsylvania, aims to enhance participant choice and improve health outcomes. Dr. Val Arkoosh, Secretary of Human Services, emphasized the program’s importance in delivering innovative and efficient healthcare solutions.

Applicants were chosen through a rigorous procurement process that assessed their methodologies, qualifications, and project understanding. Those selected scored highest in their respective zones, ensuring a competitive edge in delivering comprehensive care.

The selected providers for each zone are as follows: Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania, Health Partners Plans, PA Health and Wellness, UPMC For You, and Vista Health Plan. These organizations will cover all CHC zones, including Southeast, Lehigh/Capital, Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest Pennsylvania.

Before finalizing agreements, selected applicants will undergo a readiness review period. This process evaluates their capacity to meet the program’s service requirements and maintain adequate provider networks. The readiness review ensures that all providers are fully prepared to meet the needs of participants, adhering to the standards set forth by the CHC program.

This strategic step forward marks a significant milestone in the Commonwealth’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and support for its vulnerable populations. The DHS remains committed to fostering a system that prioritizes choice, quality, and efficiency for all its participants.
