Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Endorses Bob Casey for U.S. Senate, Recognizing His Commitment to Workers’ Rights

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA)

PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Executive Council has thrown its support behind Bob Casey for the U.S. Senate. The endorsement comes from the council representing 700,000 working men and women across Pennsylvania, associated with 51 International Unions and 1,422 Locals.

“Bob Casey has proven his commitment to the wellbeing of Pennsylvania’s workers and families since his election to the Senate in 2006,” says Angela Ferritto, President of PA AFL-CIO. “He has consistently advocated for better pay, secure retirements, gender equality, workplace health, safety, quality public education, and civil rights.”

Casey’s legislative record demonstrates his dedication to protecting workers’ rights. He has supported legislation to expand apprenticeship programs, provide paid sick days for railroad employees, and secure marriage equality.

In 2023, Senator Casey introduced two significant bills aimed at establishing a fair tax code for workers and combating anti-union practices. The Tax Fairness for Workers Act is designed to allow workers to deduct travel costs, uniform costs, and other business expenses, including union dues, similarly to other employees.

Moreover, Casey introduced the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act in 2023. This piece of legislation seeks to prevent corporations from deducting union-busting expenses from their taxes, addressing the issue of taxpayer-funded campaigns that often hinder workers’ attempts to form unions and advocate for their rights.

“Senator Casey has stood up against large corporations and defended the rights of working people across the commonwealth,” says George Piasecki, Secretary-Treasurer of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. “We are proud to endorse Bob Casey because we know he will continue to fight on behalf of our members.”

The endorsement of Casey by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO signals a significant backing from a major workers’ rights organization, further solidifying his position in the upcoming Senate race.
