PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed from Saturday, December 30, 2023, through Monday, January 1, 2024, in observance of the New Year’s holiday. Despite the physical closures, Pennsylvanians will still have access to a wide range of services online.

PennDOT’s move to close its centers for the New Year’s holiday is a standard practice that reflects the state’s recognition of public holidays. However, the department has emphasized that many of its services will continue to be available online, ensuring that residents have uninterrupted access to essential driver and vehicle products.

The department’s Driver and Vehicle Services website is set to operate as usual, providing 24/7 access to various services. These include driver’s license, photo ID, and vehicle registration renewals, driver-history services, changes of address, and driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters.

Furthermore, the website allows users to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fees, order duplicates of driver licenses and photo IDs, and schedule driver exams. The convenience of accessing these services online comes at no additional cost to users, making it an efficient and economical alternative during the holiday closure.

As we head into 2024, PennDOT customers should note that a complete listing of the year’s scheduled center closings is available online. This proactive measure can help residents plan any necessary visits to the centers around these dates.

For those planning to visit one of PennDOT’s On-Line Messenger Service Centers, the department advises calling ahead to confirm the hours of operation during holidays. This step can help prevent any potential inconvenience caused by altered holiday schedules.
