HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that all driver license and photo centers, including the full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.

Despite the closures, PennDOT assures customers that its extensive range of online services will remain fully operational. Available 24/7 through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services platform, these services include driver’s license, photo ID, and vehicle registration renewals; address changes; requests for duplicates; REAL ID pre-verification; and driver exam scheduling. Additionally, online offerings for restoration documentation and fee payments ensure uninterrupted service for time-sensitive matters.

This announcement also serves as a reminder for individuals planning to travel domestically by air after May 7, 2025. Travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or other federally-accepted forms of identification to board flights. PennDOT encourages residents to prepare by visiting its website for information on obtaining a REAL ID-compliant product.

For those needing in-person assistance, PennDOT advises checking specific hours of operation for On-Line Messenger Service Centers during the holiday period. A full schedule of 2025 closures is also available online for planning purposes.
