PENNSYLVANIA — As Pennsylvania’s fourth largest population, our veterans deserve a robust network of resources to assist them with their unique challenges. In 2023, the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) took a significant step forward in this mission, expanding the PA VETConnect network to include over 2,000 veteran resources.
PA VETConnect, an award-winning statewide outreach initiative, was launched in 2019 to serve the Commonwealth’s more than 700,000 veterans better. The program identifies and cultivates new community partnerships, broadening referral capabilities, and connecting veterans to the best possible resources, regardless of where they reside in our diverse state.
From addressing homelessness and employment to tackling mental health issues, women veteran challenges, and addiction, this initiative provides much-needed assistance to veterans and their families.
A Growing Network for a Growing Need
The expansion of PA VETConnect is a testament to Pennsylvania’s commitment to its veterans. Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general and head of the DMVA, expressed pride in the program’s achievements. “Year after year, this award-winning program continues to not only expand its available resources, but also the number of veterans it assists,” Schindler said.
Since its inception, PA VETConnect has assisted more than 10,000 veterans and their families, providing them with a lifeline during tough times and a path toward a brighter future.
The Driving Force Behind PA VETConnect
At the heart of PA VETConnect is a dedicated 15-member outreach team that blankets the Commonwealth. These team members are more than just facilitators; they’re connectors, bridging the gap between veteran advocates and the DMVA. They tirelessly discover new resources to assist veterans within their communities and across the Commonwealth, ensuring that no veteran is left behind.
The expansion of PA VETConnect is a significant step in Pennsylvania’s ongoing commitment to serve those who’ve served us. It is a recognition that our veterans deserve not just our gratitude but also our tangible support in addressing the unique challenges they face.
PA VETConnect is more than just a program; it’s a promise from the Commonwealth to its veterans: “You are not alone in your journey, and we are here to help.”
