PA Invests Over $8 Million to Enhance Recovery Support Services

Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) has announced an $8 million investment to expand and improve recovery support services for individuals battling opioid use disorder (OUD) and other substance use disorders (SUD). This initiative forms part of the Shapiro Administration’s larger $100 million plan to strengthen SUD-related supports since Governor Josh Shapiro took office.

“Having accessible community supports is fundamental to recovery,” said DDAP Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones. The funding, available from July 2025 through June 2027, focuses on health equity by prioritizing counties with overdose death rates above the state average. Six organizations across various regions have been awarded grants of up to $1.5 million each, including Public Health Management Company in Philadelphia and Educational Data Systems, Inc. in Allegheny County.

Recovery support services include care coordination, peer support, job training, and assistance with housing. These non-clinical services are personalized to help individuals sustain long-term recovery. With an emphasis on addressing health, home, purpose, and community, the program also leverages federal funding through the State Opioid Response IV grant program to combat opioid-related deaths statewide.
