CAMP HILL, PA — The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) has announced the formation of a new Friends Group dedicated to supporting Chapman State Park, a picturesque expanse of 862 acres in Warren County. This initiative not only underscores the importance of volunteerism in the stewardship of Pennsylvania’s natural resources but also highlights the critical role community involvement plays in enhancing state parks’ recreational and environmental offerings.
Friends Groups, composed of devoted volunteers, serve as vital partners to state parks and forests across Pennsylvania. By dedicating their time, skills, and financial resources, these groups contribute significantly to preserving natural landscapes, improving visitor experiences, and fostering connections between the local community and the environment. Each year, Friends Groups collectively log thousands of hours in service, organizing events, coordinating educational programs, and ensuring state parks remain accessible to all.
This newly formed Friends Group will work closely with the staff of Chapman State Park to achieve an ambitious set of goals. The group aims to protect the park’s natural beauty, advance conservation efforts, and enhance recreational opportunities for visitors. With activities ranging from trail maintenance to organizing community events, the group will play a pivotal role in connecting more people to the outdoor experiences Chapman State Park offers, including hiking, boating, cross-country skiing, and wildlife observation.
Cody Miller, Park Manager at Chapman State Park, expressed enthusiasm about this new partnership. “The park is looking forward to working with our new Friends Group,” Miller said. “They’ll bring new opportunities for education and recreation to the community.”
Chapman State Park, located in the scenic landscape of Warren County, has long been a destination known for its diverse recreational activities and serene environment. With the help of the Friends Group, the park plans to further engage the local community through initiatives like conservation education, outreach programs, and fundraising efforts to support infrastructure improvements and new projects.
PPFF President Marci Mowery elaborated on the unique qualities and impact of Friends Groups throughout the state. “Each Friends Group is unique,” Mowery stated. “They come together to work alongside state park or forest staff for the betterment of place. Not only do they bring volunteer time, they bring financial resources and different perspectives.”
This announcement comes at a time when the value of public parks and community-driven conservation efforts has never been more evident. The new Friends Group at Chapman State Park exemplifies a growing trend of individuals stepping forward to safeguard public lands for future generations while providing meaningful opportunities for education and recreation.
Through this collaboration, Chapman State Park is set to remain a treasured destination for outdoor enthusiasts and a flagship example of what can be achieved when community members join forces in the name of conservation, volunteerism, and shared stewardship of Pennsylvania’s natural resources. By contributing their time, energy, and passion, the Friends of Chapman State Park will ensure the area continues to thrive as a hub of environmental preservation and public enjoyment.
