PITTSBURGH, PA — A McKees Rocks resident has been handed a one-year-plus-one-day prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, after being convicted on charges of violating federal narcotics laws. The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan.
The sentence was imposed on Eric Howard, aged 36, by United States District Judge William S. Stickman.
Court records reveal that between February and June of 2023, Howard allegedly conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, a powerful opioid classified as a Schedule II controlled substance. This category includes drugs that have a high potential for abuse and can lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.
Before handing down the sentence, Judge Stickman pointed out that Howard had a significant record of drug trafficking. He emphasized that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to discourage Howard from engaging in further drug trafficking activities.
Assistant United States Attorneys Katherine C. Jordan and Douglas C. Maloney prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Olshan praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their role in the investigation, which led to the successful prosecution of Howard.
