PITTSBURGH, PA — Brent Shaffer, a 39-year-old resident of Olanta, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison. The sentence, announced on Thursday, November 16, 2023, also includes three years of supervised release. Shaffer was convicted for violating federal narcotics and firearms laws following a nine-month Title III wiretap investigation into drug trafficking in and around the counties of Jefferson, Clearfield, and Allegheny.
United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand imposed the sentence.
According to the information presented in court, Shaffer received parcels containing between 1.5 kilograms and 5 kilograms of methamphetamine. These parcels were shipped from California to the Western District of California. Investigators executed a federal search warrant at Shaffer’s residence on August 31, 2021, resulting in the seizure of over 200 grams of methamphetamine and three firearms.
Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan commended the joint efforts of several law enforcement agencies. These included the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Internal Revenue Services, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Allegheny County Police, and Pennsylvania State Police. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office, and the Clarion Borough Police Department also assisted in the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Shaffer.
