Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Exploitation and Online Enticement

SCRANTON, PA — A Lebanon, Pennsylvania man was sentenced to 300 months in prison on November 20, 2023, for attempted online enticement and sexual exploitation of children.

Mason Morey, 27, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion following his arrest for engaging in an online conversation with an undercover officer, who Morey believed was a father offering his 13-year-old daughter for sex.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that between November 28, 2022, and December 8, 2022, Morey used the online application “Wikr” to communicate with the undercover officer. On December 7, 2022, Morey traveled to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, intending to engage in sexual activity with the 13-year-old girl. Upon his arrival, law enforcement arrested Morey and seized multiple cell phones from him.

A subsequent digital extraction of information from Morey’s cell phones revealed that he had been creating pornographic videos and images involving two minors and transmitting these images to another individual.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts leading the prosecution.

The charges against Morey are part of a broader effort to combat child exploitation and abuse, a nationwide initiative known as Project Safe Childhood launched in 2006.
