HARRISBURG, PA — A Long Island man has been indicted by a federal grand jury this week on drug trafficking and firearms charges.
46-year-old Gilberto Rodriguez Jr. of Long Island, NY, faces these charges, as announced by U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam. The indictment alleges that between October 17, 2022, and March 20, 2023, Rodriguez distributed fentanyl on three separate occasions in York County, Pennsylvania. The indictment also alleges that Rodriguez distributed approximately 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on two separate occasions during the same period. Lastly, it alleges that on March 20, 2023, Rodriguez possessed fentanyl intending to distribute the controlled substance.
The investigation into Rodriguez was conducted by the York County Detective Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Pennsylvania State Police. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Monroe is prosecuting the case.
The maximum penalty for these offenses could be life imprisonment, a life term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine of up to $20,000,000. However, actual sentences are determined by a judge after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
It’s important to note that indictments and criminal informations are only allegations. All persons charged, including Rodriguez, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. As with all cases, information can change as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation.
