WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is leading a bipartisan call for President Biden to approve a major disaster declaration for Pennsylvania following severe storms and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby. This request, supported by a group of 11 Members of Congress, aims to secure federal assistance to aid recovery efforts in the Commonwealth.

The request highlights the significant damage incurred by multiple counties, which has left many residents, particularly in vulnerable communities, displaced and struggling. Senator John Fetterman and Representatives Chrissy Houlahan, Matt Cartwright, Glenn “GT” Thompson, Madeleine Dean, and Susan Wild joined Casey in emphasizing the urgent need for federal support.

In a letter to President Biden, the lawmakers emphasized the importance of federal assistance, stating, “Individual Assistance from the federal government is critical for helping households and individuals cover uninsured or underinsured expenses and needs as they recover from Tropical Storm Debby’s damages.” They further noted the measures already taken by Governor Josh Shapiro, who issued a disaster declaration for 28 counties and allocated $5 million in state funding to address immediate needs.

As Pennsylvania continues damage assessments, the delegation insists federal aid is essential for long-term recovery, particularly to restore critical infrastructure. The letter concludes with a plea for swift approval of Governor Shapiro’s request, urging the administration to collaborate with state officials to address evolving recovery demands.
