NORTH HUNTINGDON, PA — State lawmakers convened at Beverly’s PGH on Wednesday for a roundtable discussion and tour, spotlighting the nonprofit’s vital role in supporting families across Southwestern Pennsylvania. Serving seven counties, Beverly’s PGH provides both essential resources and celebrations for families facing financial challenges, lifting spirits through its unique mission.
The event, co-hosted by the House Majority Policy Committee and the Black Maternal Health Caucus, was part of the Black Maternal Health Week Summit. Central to the discussion was “Momnibus 2.0,” a legislative package designed to improve maternal and newborn care in the state. Among the proposed bills is the Maternal and Newborn Supply Kit Program, a pilot initiative introduced by Representatives La’Tasha D. Mayes and Gina H. Curry.
“This legislation would be a pilot program to examine how we can source these kits for moms and babies all across the commonwealth, and Beverly’s is the premier organization that does this work,” said Rep. Mayes.
Founded 13 years ago, Beverly’s PGH operates Pennsylvania’s only formula bank, which has served approximately 3,500 babies since launching in June 2022. The nonprofit also provides birthday gifts to roughly 12,000 children annually and organizes baby showers for those unable to afford such celebrations. “Beverly’s work extends beyond necessities, offering families the chance to celebrate milestones that might otherwise go unrecognized,” said founder and Executive Director Megs Yunn.
With challenges such as rising costs due to recent tariff changes, Beverly’s continues its mission to meet increasing community needs. State Rep. Arvind Venkat praised the nonprofit’s impact while emphasizing the importance of the Momnibus package. “The work of the Black Maternal Health Caucus and these legislative efforts is how we move the ball forward and make a real difference,” Venkat stated.
The visit concluded with lawmakers reaffirming their commitment to advancing initiatives that better support families statewide. Beverly’s PGH remains a vital resource for uplifting the lives of children and parents alike, and the collaborative efforts on display signal a brighter future for maternal health in Pennsylvania.
