HARRISBURG, PA — Derek Allen Reed, 35, of Uniontown, has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for crimes involving unlawful contact with a minor and dissemination of explicit materials. The sentence was announced following his guilty plea in November to multiple felonies.

According to authorities, Reed used Facebook and Snapchat to communicate with a 15-year-old girl after initially meeting her at an ex-girlfriend’s residence. Over time, he sent the victim lewd images, made sexually explicit comments, and requested inappropriate content in return. The situation escalated as Reed arranged a meeting, believing it would result in a sexual encounter. He was arrested at the agreed location in June 2023, thwarted by law enforcement after the victim reported the communications to her mother, who then contacted the police.

Reed also faces five years of probation after his release and required registration as a sex offender for 25 years.

“This case is yet another alarming example of how social media can be used by predators to harm and exploit minors,” said Attorney General Dave Sunday. “In this case, the child had the courage to record the online chatter and tell her mother, who contacted police.”

Senior Deputy Attorney General Angela Raver led the prosecution in this case.
