Investigation Underway After Death of SCI Greene Inmate

WAYNESBURG, PA — The State Correctional Institution at Greene has announced the death of Joseph Taylor, a 48-year-old inmate who passed away on December 30, 2024. Superintendent Randy Evans confirmed the news, detailing the timeline of events leading to Taylor’s passing.

Taylor was found unresponsive in his cell on December 5, 2024. Prison staff administered life-saving measures immediately before emergency medical personnel arrived and transported him to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, Taylor was pronounced dead at 5:17 PM on December 30.

Taylor was serving a 9-20-year sentence for robbery from Delaware County and had been incarcerated at SCI Greene since November 13, 2023.

Following state protocols, the Pennsylvania State Police have been notified and will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of Taylor’s death. The official cause of death is pending a determination by the Greene County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities have confirmed that Taylor’s next of kin has been informed. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
