HARRISBURG, PA — On Friday, Governor Josh Shapiro declared that more than $3.2 million will be pumped into the U.S. Boiler Company. This local industrial gem, ensconced in Lancaster for over three decades, will see a substantial expansion—propelling job growth and fortifying local manufacturing prowess.
The sizable investment will back a $5.5 million expansion project, which, beyond injecting new life into the economic veins of Lancaster County, promises to create at least 15 new jobs whilst preserving 117 existing ones.
U.S. Boiler Company intends to construct a cutting-edge 45,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 2930 Old Tree Road in Lancaster. The new facility will be equipped with the latest production lines, conveyors, and storage racking. This expansion is slated to ramp up the production of their low-emission, high-efficiency boiler model, Alta.
True to their Pennsylvania roots, the U.S. Boiler Company picked the Keystone State for their expansion over North Carolina. This decision adds credence to Governor Shapiro’s claim that Pennsylvania is a formidable player against other states in attracting and retaining businesses.
Shapiro’s administration has, since January 2023, announced more than $1.2 billion in new private sector investments in Pennsylvania, a direct result of their industrious efforts.
The recent unveiling of the Commonwealth’s inaugural Economic Development Strategy in close to two decades not only solidifies Pennsylvania’s standing as a trailblazer in economic development and innovation but also sets the stage for continued growth and prosperity in the region.
U.S. Boiler Company’s fruitful track record in residential and light commercial heating product manufacturing, combined with their commitment to Lancaster, cements the company’s integral role in the local industrial landscape. This relationship found further validation with funding proposals from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), including a $3 million Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loan and a $45,000 workforce development grant to facilitate training.
Lancaster, home to over 200 union and non-union employees of U.S. Boiler Company, rejoices in the Commonwealth’s support. This gesture is a clear signal of Governor Shapiro’s drive to cultivate Pennsylvania’s manufacturing sector.
In the words of John Biemiller, Director of Business Retention and Expansion for EDC Lancaster County, “Manufacturing remains the leading sector of Lancaster County’s economy, contributing 17.2% of our GDP and 16.7% of our total employment. This investment by U.S. Boiler Company strengthens their local operations and further builds the industrial base in this community.”
In summary, the $3.2 million investment in U.S. Boiler Company by Governor Josh Shapiro is set to boost job growth in Lancaster. With a planned $5.5 million expansion, the company is creating 15 new jobs and preserving 117. U.S. Boiler will construct a 45,000 sq ft facility in Lancaster dedicated to high-efficiency boilers. This strategic investment, backed by Shapiro’s administration’s $1.2 billion private sector investments, spotlights U.S. Boiler’s steadfast commitment to Lancaster, supported by state funding, highlighting the region’s manufacturing prowess.
As the Governor’s Action Team rolls up its sleeves to propel this project to success, the future of Lancaster’s manufacturing legacy looks promising. One thing is clear; the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Pennsylvania, and U.S. Boiler Company is poised to lead the charge.
